North Beach Second Story Addition with Viewing Deck Harjo’s team partnered with Seattle Architect Lance Richert to bring this homeowner’s dream to life. The homeowner wanted to add a second story primary suite and access scenic views while remaining sympathetic to the original aesthetics of the 1941 design. The transition from original home to addition is minimally noticeable with an ever so slight change brick coloring where the chimney was extended. The choice made to have the brick siding transition to horizontal cedar siding on the top floor was a common design choice for the era of the house. The new addition increases the footprint of the home by 764 square feet.
As you ascend the stairs leading up to the addition, the landing opens up to the entry to the primary suite, walk-in closet, ensuite bathroom and private deck on the left. On the right, a reading nook with French doors that lead out to a viewing deck with exceptional views of Puget Sound. The side-mount glass railings brought a modern look to the back of this traditional-styled home.
Every detail of this home’s remodel was meticulously crafted down to the homeowner’s favorite new feature, a laundry chute spanning 2 floors! The half round gutters were powder coated to match the color of the home and closes soffits to give the eaves a finished look. Every single nut and bolt were chosen with durability, longevity, and aesthetic in mind.
“I could not be more pleased with the outcome of this high-stakes, major remodeling project for my home! Finding the right general contractor was a big challenge for me. Harjo distinguished itself by its focus on my desired outcome and its flexibility in the scheduling and execution of the work as the project proceeded, especially regarding tasks, such as floor refinishing, that I added after the work commenced.” – North Beach Homeowner
