Loyal Heights Basement Remodel
The original basement contained a storage space with angled walls that broke up the large living area, a cramped bathroom, and a secondary kitchen that took up more space than necessary. To maximize the use of the space, we downsized the kitchen to a kitchenette and relocated it into the family room, enlarged the bathroom, and created a laundry closet.
Kitchenette / Family Room
By removing a storage room, we opened up the family room and created an area for a laundry closet and kitchenette. Now at a more appropriate scale for the family’s needs, the kitchenette provides adequate space for a sink, microwave, and refrigerator while taking up minimal square footage at the perimeter of the room. The wood tones of the kitchenette cabinetry tie in with the new flooring installed throughout the basement. Removing the ceiling tiles and new paint throughout made the ceiling heights feel higher, and integrated the basement better with the rest of the house.
Bathroom
By moving the bathroom into the former kitchen space, there is now ample room for a large shower, 46” wide vanity, and a storage closet that spans the width of the room. A wall hung pivoting mirror to one side of the vanity is balanced out with hanging pendants on the other side. The light and bright finishes make the space feel larger, with the large format tiles and bead board on the walls providing texture. The cream paint and wood vanity balance out the cooler grays in the tile.
