Japanese Consulate Exterior Restoration
In 2019, we had the privilege of collaborating with Ueda Design Studio to restore the exterior of the Official Residence of the Japanese Consulate General in Seattle, a historic property located in the Queen Anne neighborhood, built in 1906. Over the years, the south-facing façade of the building had endured significant damage from water and sun exposure, compromising its integrity.
Our team carried out extensive work, including the removal and replacement of stucco siding and trim, re-pointing the chimney, installing 48 new Milgard fiberglass windows, and repairing the roof. In addition to structural and aesthetic enhancements, we prioritized sustainability and long-term protection by incorporating high-quality materials like a TPO membrane on the roof and weatherproof architectural trim, custom matched to the existing trim. We also installed a high-performance rain screen and envelope system, specially designed for this building by BEE Engineers , as well as a cement-based stucco finish for enhanced weather protection. Our goal was to preserve the building’s historic charm while ensuring its long-term durability.
