Sunset Hill Siding and Sunroom
This home, located in Seattle’s Sunset Hill neighborhood with views of the Puget Sound, underwent a stunning transformation with modern architectural updates. Shou sugi ban siding, a slatted cedar entry, and a new sunroom with expansive windows enhance the home’s connection to its scenic surroundings.
Siding
New siding took this house from builder grade to a modern beauty. Rusted patina steel architectural panels between the windows combined with the powder coated aluminum trim, make the smaller windows feel like one larger piece. The panels also provide a beautiful contrast to the dark shou sugi ban (Japanese charred cedar) siding.
A wood slat entry features stained cedar boards with dark marine grade plywood underneath to make them pop. A band of clear coated rainier plank cedar wraps around the wood slats to create a defining border for the entry.
Sunroom and Rooftop Deck
Although there was an existing rooftop deck with a view of the water, there was nowhere to enjoy the view from the roof during the winter months. A new dormer addition allowed space for a sunroom that features expansive picture windows to capture the view, and skylights that maximize natural lighting. A rainier plank cedar ceiling and shou sugi ban walls provide continuity with the rest of the home’s exterior, and further frame the view. An attic access panel finished with shou sugi ban blends in seamlessly with the rest of the wall. The rooftop deck received new cedar-look composite decking and a new powder coated aluminum cable rail that tie in with the black finishes and wood accents elsewhere on the exterior.
