Moroccan-Inspired Bathroom Honored for Remodeling Excellence
May 8, 2018
Lindsey Runyon Design, backed by Harjo Construction and Strictly Tile, was recently recognized at the Remodeling Excellence (REX) and Trades Remodeling Excellence (T-REX) Awards for interior design work on a Moroccan-inspired master bath and bedroom. The Remodelers Council for the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties present these awards to outstanding professionals in their industry to celebrate craftsmanship and expertise.
The Harjo Construction and Strictly Tile teams came together to make Lindsey Runyon’s vision a reality. Here is an inside look at this project and some of the highlights that make it outstanding.
The Bathroom
In this project, Lindsey took a dated, suburban bathroom and transformed it into a Moroccan getaway. The original design was lackluster, and the previous construction and tile installation were very low-quality. Inspired by the client’s trip to Morocco, Lindsey worked with the homeowner to bring new life to the space.
The team started the project by removing the large built-in tub deck and replacing it with a freestanding tub to open up the space. Then, Strictly Tile installed a custom-designed wall tile pattern one piece at a time, creating a modern Moroccan look and feel.
Trim and handmade lighting fixtures imported from Morocco add elegance and detail to the space. The flooring is marble tile, and the grout is infused with fiber-optic wires, creating a starry effect at night. The archway over the shower completes the design, showcasing an elegant and unique aesthetic reminiscent of Casablanca, and the homeowners’ souvenir bowls from the North African country round out the space.
The Bedroom
The bedroom remodel also showcases a beautiful Moroccan aesthetic. Our team replaced the dated floors with elegant hardwood. We also moved the fireplace to better align with the room, refaced it with red marble and stainless inlay tile, and added a new marble top and side. This unique bed is covered with a Moroccan-style canopy, and the room features additional trim, doors, woodwork, and lighting fixtures also imported from Morocco. This space also features a custom-designed bench surrounding the room’s outer edge, complete with storage space and a small fridge.
To round out the space, the ceiling and wall border detail was hand-stenciled in paint. The designer also embellished the space with some of the client’s own art pieces, including Picasso and Dali lithographs and a Buddha statue.
