The People Behind Our Projects
Kurt Harjo
Principal, General Contractor
Since the age of 19, Kurt has dreamt of starting a business to build beautiful things. Growing up in construction, Kurt had a lot of preparation before founding Harjo Construction, including building tree houses, growing up with a home workshop, working in commercial construction during college, and later working in the field and project management. If he had to choose the single most important thing to do in a day, Kurt believes it’s understanding priorities. He enjoys solving problems with clients, putting together strategies, and helping them visualize a new reality for their home. Inspired by Coach John Wooden, Kurt motivates others by helping people see new or bigger realities for themselves — discovering a capacity within them they weren’t aware was there. Evident in his management style, Kurt encourages his employees to grow by offering them new challenges. If he wasn’t improving homes, Kurt could see himself sailing around the world or designing and building furniture. In his spare time, he likes competitive mountain biking, playing volleyball, cooking and conversing with his wife Meghan and two kids, Koen and Anna.

Javan Chapple
Lead Designer
Javan has been working in the architectural field for the last 11 years and has both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in architecture & design from the University of New Mexico and is working toward Architectural licensure. After growing up in Montana and spending a decade in the Southwest deserts of New Mexico, Javan now calls Lake Forest Park home along with his wife, 2 kids and dog named Domino.
What draws Javan to residential design is the unparalleled emotional investment of the homeowners. It is walking alongside the clients through the design process, learning and teaching together as the client’s ideas and dreams take form to materialize into something tangible; pushing the limits of what is possible within the constraints of budget and space; ultimately crossing the finish line to enter a new space that might not be what they pictured at the very beginning, but is exactly what they wanted. Design is more about the journey itself than it is the destination.
