East Magnolia Modern Kitchen Remodel
Our clients approached us with drawings for a modern kitchen remodel aimed at making their Magnolia home feel more open and functional for their everyday lives. Previously, a large closet sat at the center of the main floor, interrupting sightlines from the entry and creating a disjointed route between the kitchen, living areas, and back door. By executing the new layout, removing the central obstruction, and positioning a custom island where the closet once stood, the kitchen now anchors the main floor, creating clear views from the front door to the back of the house, and making the entire space feel larger, brighter, and more connected.
Kitchen
The original kitchen was tucked behind walls that broke up the flow of the home. Removing the partition between the kitchen and hallway opened the space enough to introduce a new island with seating—one of the clients’ top priorities. As part of this modern kitchen remodel, the range was relocated to the exterior wall, a change that dramatically improved both functionality and visual balance.
Modern flat-panel Dura Supreme cabinetry with touch-latch hardware keeps the kitchen clean and uncluttered, while darker floors and gray base cabinets ground the room. The light upper cabinets and countertops brighten the entire space, tying in seamlessly with the ribbed wall tile that climbs all the way to the ceiling. The larger-format tile gives the textured, kit-kat–style look the clients loved, but with far less grout to maintain.
The island became the centerpiece of the modern kitchen remodel and was heavily customized to suit the way the clients cook and entertain. It includes cubbies at countertop height for easy-access storage, a raised eating ledge with a foot rail, a microwave niche, a waterfall edge facing the dining area, and cleverly integrated pop-up outlets. A coordinating coffee station—with furniture-style legs and matching finishes—adds both utility and visual interest next to the range. Warm wood shelves tucked into a recessed spice niche bring a subtle layer of texture and warmth. Stainless steel elements, including the wall-mounted range hood and cooktop, help tie the modern palette together.
Under-cabinet lighting, minimal crown, and flush baseboards painted to match the cabinetry complete the streamlined look, giving the kitchen a crisp, contemporary feel, without sacrificing character.
Pantry & Hallway Reconfiguration
The hallway adjacent to the kitchen originally housed two closets, one of which blocked the sightline from the entry and disrupted the natural path to the back door. As part of the remodel, we removed one closet entirely and reworked the remaining closet to create a more functional pantry and storage space.
The new pantry features an expanded footprint with a shifted opening for better accessibility, and adjustable shelving to maximize storage. With the closets reconfigured, the hall now offers a direct, unobstructed route from the main living areas to the back door, making a clear path of travel for everyday movement through the home. Streamlined baseboards and a shoe-storage alcove further enhance the clean, modern feel carried throughout the project.
