Greenwood Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel
This Greenwood kitchen and bathroom remodel transformed two hardworking spaces into brighter, more inviting areas designed around the way the homeowners cook, gather, and unwind. The clients wanted better kitchen storage, a dedicated place to dine and entertain, and a steam shower for a relaxing end to the day. A layered palette of blue, warm neutrals, and natural wood brings color and texture to the updated spaces while maintaining a connection to the home’s existing character.
Kitchen, Dining, and Bar
The kitchen layout remained largely in place, but carefully planned cabinetry and targeted changes made better use of the available space. Off-white perimeter cabinets and a blue island create contrast, while quartz countertops, geometric backsplash tile, and warm wood accents add depth and color. A counter-to-ceiling cabinet gives countertop appliances a dedicated home, and a pantry pull-out and tray divider near the range keep everyday essentials organized and accessible. A built-in microwave nook integrates the appliance into the cabinetry, maintaining a clean, continuous backsplash.
One of the kitchen’s defining features is the island’s lowered, table-height section, topped with African mahogany butcher block. The cantilevered surface creates a comfortable place to gather and knead bread while helping the island transition into the more open area near the dining room. Matching open shelves connect the wood countertop to the rest of the island, while bookshelf-style cabinetry below provides storage for cookbooks. Concealed countertop brackets help maintain a clean, streamlined appearance.
The former home office became a dining area with a built-in banquette, custom upholstery, and storage drawers beneath the windows. The opening between the kitchen and dining area was reduced to make room for the relocated refrigerator and a new bar cabinet. Glass-front upper cabinets provide space for wine glasses, while dedicated wine storage below keeps entertaining essentials close at hand. A tall display area accommodates the clients’ candlesticks inherited from a family member, giving these meaningful pieces a place of their own.
Warmly veined countertops, bronze hardware, and wood accents carry throughout the connected spaces. Blue cabinetry, coordinating wall paint, backsplash tile, and lighting add cohesive pops of color, while refinished hardwood floors and the original windows and trim preserve elements of the home’s character.
Bathroom
The main-floor bathroom was reworked to create a larger, more comfortable steam shower while retaining select elements of the existing space. The new shower includes a built-in bench, two-shelf niche, linear drain, and a sloped ceiling designed for the steam shower. Blue wall tile brings color into the space, while a patterned accent tile in the niche combines blue with the terracotta tones of the existing bathroom floor. The square shower floor tile echoes the shape of the original flooring, creating a subtle connection between old and new.
A dark wood vanity with a tiled backsplash adds warmth and contrast, while simple lighting, a new mirror, and bronze hardware coordinate with existing fixtures elsewhere in the bathroom. The original tile base from the shower was carefully saved and reused behind the new vanity, allowing the new elements to feel integrated with the existing room. Attention to details such as tile alignment at the shower door and the framed transition around the opening gives the finished space a clean, intentional feel.
