Loyal Heights Kitchen and Dining Remodel

Loyal Heights Kitchen and Dining Remodel
Harjo Construction partnered with architect William Scales on this kitchen and dining remodel project. The dated original kitchen had a functional layout for cooking, but felt disconnected from the rest of the main floor. Widening the opening from the kitchen to the dining room provided the flow and openness the space previously lacked.
Kitchen

Although the layout of the kitchen stayed relatively similar, the new footprint creates connection with the dining room, while maximizing storage. Removing the dated tile and replacing it with hardwood created continuity with the surrounding spaces. The kitchen cabinetry continues slightly into the dining room to provide additional storage, and blur the lines between the two spaces. Demolishing the soffit at the kitchen’s perimeter made the space feel larger and more contemporary. White oak cabinetry contributes to the warmth of the space, and pairs beautifully with matte black hardware that brings some contrast to the white backsplash and countertops. Borrowing from the concept of two recessed pantries in the existing layout, a new wider recessed pantry with a matching trim detail provides additional storage, while maintaining the character of the home. Toe kick drawers take advantage of otherwise unused space.

Dining Room

Refinishing the existing hardwoods, and refreshing the paint brought this room new life. New casework at an existing built-in location tied into the new kitchen finishes, but the fluted angled ends add a layer of uniqueness and character. The glass upper cabinet provides the perfect spot to showcase glassware and a layer of ambiance.
