Phinney Ridge Family Craftsman Remodel
Harjo Construction seamlessly merged timeless charm and modern sensibilities to completely revitalize this early 1900s home into a functional and breathtaking space that will be cherished for years to come.
The foremost challenge Harjo faced was the dilapidated and virtually unusable addition built in an earlier update. With young children, the homeowner’s top priority was establishing a spacious, safe, and secure footprint. To achieve this, Harjo demolished the entire addition. The new design, created by architect Cherry Snelling and the homeowner, called for an open living plan to keep the family in touch while in separate spaces.
Situated on a steep hill in Phinney Ridge, an expansive backyard provides ample space to relax, socialize, or play. A ship’s ladder from the second floor leads to a breathtaking rooftop deck adorned with a cozy fireplace and stunning sunset views of the Olympic mountains.
The main floor kitchen also needed a complete overhaul. Though this space was central to the home, it was in bad shape. By removing the back wall, the new design created an open and airy atmosphere, imbuing the entire space with an inviting ambiance. All finishes were meticulously refreshed, including new flooring, exquisite tiling, and beautifully crafted cabinetry.
In addition, the second floor underwent a thoughtful reconfiguration to accommodate a master suite, a convenient and much-needed laundry room, and enhanced storage and closet space.
Tying it all together, Harjo installed new flooring throughout the home and collaborated closely with the client and the designer to infuse the residence with renewed vitality while honoring its rich Craftsman style. This historic home has smoothly transitioned into the 21st century.
