Wallingford Dormer Addition
In need of a third bathroom, this project transformed two bathrooms that lacked functionality and turned an unused balcony into an additional hall bathroom. New siding at the new dormer for the bathroom, and new roofing material allowed the dormer addition to blend in seamlessly with the existing home. A new guardrail at the stairwell refreshed the second-floor hallway.
Main Floor Bathroom
With a formerly cramped layout and freestanding tub, this bathroom needed reconfiguration. Opting for an angled corner shower and relocating the vanity freed up space at the bathroom entry. The new dark wood vanity ties in with the dark wood door and trim throughout the rest of the home. The new brass light fixtures bring in additional warmth, and matte black plumbing fixtures contribute to the transitional style of the space. A small hex floor pattern stays consistent with the era of the home, while the white subway tile adds timelessness. Blue wainscotting provides a fun pop of color. Providing additional functionality to the space, there is a hook in the shower to attach a dog leash to, and the mirror has a medicine cabinet for extra storage.
Primary Bathroom
What used to serve as both the primary and hall bathroom was reconfigured to streamline the layout and create a true primary suite. Closing off the hallway entrance and removing a large built-in tub made space for a roomy shower and double vanity. A freestanding tub with a smaller footprint opens up the space. The new shower with emerald herringbone tile and satin brass Schluter edges serves as a focal point. Tying in with the shower tile, the green wainscoting contributes to the room’s character. Brushed gold fixtures, and the curved dark wood vanity bring warmth and provide cohesion with other spaces in the home. Matte black accents in the medicine cabinets and shower glass add a layer of depth to the space. New marble-look flooring replaced the unsightly and unfunctional carpet that once filled the space.
Hall Bathroom
By enclosing an unused balcony, the footprint could be used for a new hall bathroom in the dormer addition. A kids’ hall bathroom is the perfect place to have fun with pattern and color. The scalloped blue tile at the vanity wall and shower niche create interest and provide contrast to the white walls and shower tile. A penny round cork flooring, reeded wood vanity, and wood accents bring warmth and contrast the blue tile. Curves throughout the bathroom, whether in the mirror, light fixtures, tile, or rounded vanity edges, contribute to the organic and calming feel of the space. Matte black plumbing fixtures and accessories provide interest and add a more modern element. Tucked inside a closet is a stacked washer and dryer, creating even more functionality in this dormer addition.
